Our Mission & Vision
Nathan & Associates came together with the goal of providing professional, empathic, integrative therapy to serve individuals, couples and families from a wide array of backgrounds. We strive to understand our client’s inner needs and resources as well as their environmental needs and resources. No one’s problems occur in a vacuum, and we know that when a community’s individuals and families can thrive, so will the community.
Our mission is to provide mental health services to our brothers and sisters in the community for healing, growth and support.
Our vision is to provide compassionate, collaborative, client-centered care, in order to encourage personal, family and community mental health.
Our therapists bring a deep experience and compassionate understanding to every client interaction.
Our Therapists
Nathan Rauschendorfer, MSW, LICSW
I received my master’s in social work from the University St Thomas & College of Saint Catherine in 2005 and my license to practice as an independent therapist in 2008. Throughout my 18-year career at Catholic Charities, I worked with individuals as well as couples and groups. As a community resource, I saw people with a broad variety of concerns, from anxiety and depression to holistic health, grief & loss, along with extensive trauma work. I helped people with everything from spiritual exploration to crisis intervention, from “anger regulation” to parenting skills. My experience also includes management and supervision. I was manager and supervisor of parenting services and I have extensive experience supervising clinical social workers as they work towards independent licensure.
I take a collaborative approach with my clients, bringing my education and experience along with a respectful listening approach that acknowledges clients’ own expertise and path. I feel very proud and grateful to have had the opportunity to have worked with such a variety of people and situations throughout the years. The opportunity to open my own practice, work with esteemed colleagues, and continue to serve my brothers and sisters as best as I can, is an incredibly humbling and valued Blessing!

Life makes one consistent demand: that we adjust to change. After 44 years of experience in providing therapy, I have learned many wise approaches to change that seem to help my clients. Throughout these years of providing empathetic, energetic, thoughtful care to my clients, I have also personally seen a lot of change. At the time of my graduate degree in clinical social work from Tulane University in 1974 the therapy world was all about psychodynamic therapy. I always appreciate that classical training, but have also evolved to include a more cutting-edge, holistic, client centered approach.
I have also supervised dozens of graduate students during their clinical training and while they are securing their independent licenses. I enjoy witnessing and participating in growth of therapists as much as my own clients. One of the joys of private practice has been expanding my role of teacher and supervisor. I currently teach at Augsburg College in their graduate program for clinical social work and provide supervision to graduate students at Metropolitan State.
Community outreach has also been a professional interest through the years. I led a couples communication program 3x/year for more than 20 years. I organized First Aid for Families: a community event providing a meal, child care, and a workshop for parents on vital aspects of healthy family life, including (but not limited to) parenting skills, anger management, discipline, self-esteem, and conflict resolution for 5 years.
Because of the needs of my clients I’ve been inspired to incorporate several forms of therapy for which I’ve begun the certification process. This includes Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Mind/Body Medicine (with James Gordon, MD) and Trauma Informed Therapy.
Monica L. Sowden, MSW, LICSW
I received my Master of Social Work degree from the College of St. Catherine/University of St. Thomas School of Social Work in 2007. In my practice I focus on the importance of the therapeutic relationship, understanding how the brain and body interact, and respecting the client’s own innate capacity to heal.
I have experience in working with ethnically and socioeconomically diverse individuals with a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, anger, grief, childhood and adult trauma, disordered personality, life transitions, chemical dependency, and relationship problems.
My areas of interest include addiction and trauma. I have studied and practiced Motivational Interviewing and am familiar with the 12-step approach. My training in Somatic Experiencing has shown me that trauma—indeed all of what we consider “mental health”—occurs in the body. My recent personal experience with an autoimmune response has strengthened my knowledge of the mind-body connection and how to use it to understand illness and work toward wellness.
Jean Fagerstrom, MSW, LICSW
I work with clients with a variety of life issues including stress, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, life transitions, relationship issues, chemical abuse, and understanding serious mental illness.
My goal is to create a safe environment where you can sort out your own thoughts, feelings, experiences and behavioral patterns, understand yourself better and find more freedom and ease in the way you live.
I want to help you remember your strengths, honor your own nature and find ways to be your best self in the midst of an unpredictable and demanding world.

Life can be full of uncertainty and packed with transitions. Relationships can be messy. Let’s unpack and sift through these struggles together and foster understanding, healing, and growth.
There is power in telling your story! This is a safe, non-judgmental, and authentic space where you bring your whole self and start to tell your story in a way that supports and empowers you. Growth starts by reconnecting to your inner resources and learning some new ones to support your healing process. You can have more balance and a greater sense of calm in your life. Together we will develop a map to help you heal, thrive, and create a deeper sense of connection with yourself and others.
I work with individuals, couples, and families to help strengthen their connections and heal wounds. Much of my experience includes supporting people with life transitions, loss, depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship concerns. I utilize a holistic approach grounded in systemic theory and guided by the belief that healing occurs by attending to the mind, body, and spirit. Breath work, mindfulness, and guided imagery are some of techniques I draw from to support people in the healing process.
For as long as I can remember, I have always been drawn to supporting people in their work towards healing and well-being. Much of my early career involved providing support to marginalized populations in community mental health in a variety of settings. My approach is collaborative and with respect for each person’s ability to heal through their own innate wisdom. I would be honored to be included in your journey towards wellness.
